Lindsay Whalen Changes the Face of Women's Basketball

Women’s basketball has little fan support and is often the butt of many jokes. This is understandable, it’s a fact that the game is slower than men’s basketball, there aren’t as many fast breaks. The game is less exciting, there are virtually no slam dunks.

Lindsay Whalen of the Minnesota Lynx is the exception that could change the future of women’s basketball. Yes, she plays very well fundamental basketball, something all of women players are often criticized for. But she also has one-on-one moves that freeze the defense making her impossible to guard. No, she doesn’t dunk, but her famous over the shoulder passes on fast breaks make her exciting to watch. She has set the bar for other women coming into the league. Players are going to have to try to match her skill level which will ultimately make the game faster, and more exciting to watch.
